Aussies Dream Big When It Comes to Travelling for Sport
- Written by Red Havas
The nation’s love of sport reaches new heights as a fifth of Australians who are considering travelling for a major sporting event put this before their partner or career.
Aussies cemented their priorities in life as new research from Booking.com reveals that a fifth of respondents who indicate they are planning a trip for a major sports trip would be willing to break up with their partner or lose their job if it meant they could travel to see a sporting event.
The findings come as Booking.com, digital travel leader in connecting travellers with the widest choice of unique places to stay, makes it easier for fans across the nation to experience the drama and excitement of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's T20 World Cup, which kicked off on Friday with long-time rivals Australia v India in Sydney.
Almost one in two Aussies surveyed claimed they would make some sort of sacrifice in order to travel for sport. Despite more than half of the male respondents (51%) attesting to this, women aren’t far behind in their love for travel and sport, with more than a third (31%) agreeing that they would make a sacrifice to see a major sporting event.
And it’s not just love they’d give up - asked what they would sacrifice, sports-loving Aussies are most likely to part with their hard-earned savings (60% of those willing to make sacrifices) followed by missing out on milestone family occasions (30%), showing just how high travelling for a sporting experience is on their agenda.
The research also highlighted that the nation is dreaming big when it comes to their trips, as 80% take to creating a list of ‘dream travel experiences’ and more than one-quarter of Aussie women say watching a major sporting event is an experience on their dream travel list.
Area Manager at Booking.com Australia, Luke Wilson, commented: “It’s never been more important for Australians to get the most out of their trips.
